1938 Born in Antwerp, Belgium.  
1940 Franck family moves to USA.  
1944 Franck family moves to London.  
1960-1963 Studies History of Art at the University of Madrid.  
Studies at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris.  
1964 Works as photography assistant under Eliot Elisofon and Gjon Mili at the Time-Life laboratory in Paris.  
Begins working with the Theatre du Soleil?  
1965 Begins freelancing.  
1970 Joins the Agency VU, Paris.  
1971 Marries Henri Cartier-Bresson.  
1972 Founded VIVA photographic agency, Paris.  
1979
Leaves VIVA photographic agency.
 
1980 Becomes associate member of Magnum.  
1983 Becomes full member of Magnum.  
1985 Started working with the Little Brothers of the Poor (Les petits freres des Pauvres), Paris.  
1995 Collaborates with Robert Delpire on the 26 minute film 'Ariane et Compagnie: le Theatre du Soleil'.  
1998 Becomes Vice-President of Magnum until 2000.  
2000 Collaborated with Fabienne Strouve-Beckers for FR3 on the film 'Retour en Irlande avec Martine Franck, photographe'.
