GRAHAM SMITH

Graham Smith was born (1947 Middlesbrough UK ) into a family whose work, class and culture, on his father’s side, was rooted deep in the heavy industry of iron making for at least four generations. That inevitability of working for life in the iron and steelworks troubled him. Reckless he broke free, but just enough not to lose a sense of belonging. People, pubs, stories, photographs and writing have been important to him in what has often been an obsession to understand values, good and bad, of the culture he left behind. Those values affected his life and a need to know why has been the driving force behind his pictures and writing, for too many years.
