Double Fantasy
21th April - 4th July, 2010

Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague

Double Fantasy concentrates on the vibrant relationship between precisely formulated doctrines of European landscape production of the 17th century, as manifested in the work of Claude Lorraine and Nicolas Possin, and its renewed use in current digital photography, through the photographs of Beate Gutschow. J. Jedlicka and M. Seba then contrast Beate's work with their use of non-manipulative, direct photographs. The resultant images by all three of the aforementioned authors ask urgent questions as to the archetype of the generally shared idea and concept of the ideal landscape. Double Fantasy encourages questions as to whether this concept of the landscape emerges from nature itself, or from the rich, structured concept of nature which came from the European artistic and philosophical heritage, as well as our retroactive projection of this concept in today's real landscape.

Alongside this exhibition, a compact collection of landscape photography from the middle of the 19th century from the Museum of Decorative Arts collection will be displayed in the small gallery of Galerie Rudolfinum. The Double Fantasy exhibition, for which a catalogue shall be published in Czech and English versions, will be held from April to July 4, 2010.
